DEBO SHIBORI
The ancient art form of SHIBORI is the oldest form of fabric ornamentation. It is the art and
technique of simultaneously coloring and ornamenting through resist dying.
A wide variety of styles and interpretations are seen in contemporary Shibori works, and to
establish a recognizable signature, as is the tradition of the art form, is to distinguish a mastery.
Melanie DeBo holds such distinction having been a discipline of the Shibori for some 47 years.
First seen at Obiko in San Francisco 1975. The detail and complexity of her work, her particular
color sensitivities and her further interpretation of the Shibori in her Couture collections are
unique.
